Chubby Cheeks to Sharp Jawline: The Only Tips You Need

Your jawline isn't something you either have or don't. For most guys, it's hiding. Here's the step-by-step roadmap to reveal it.

The Roadmap

Your jawline isn't genetic luck. For most men, it's hiding under a layer of body fat and water retention. I've walked this road myself and coached dozens of guys through it. Here's the step-by-step.

Step 1: Get Lean (This Is 80% of It)

No shortcut around this. Face fat is body fat. To see your jawline, your overall body fat has to come down. For most guys, the jaw really starts showing around 12-15%.

Moderate caloric deficit. High protein. Lift weights. Stay consistent for months. That's the formula. It's simple, but it works.

Step 2: Build Your Neck and Traps

This is the tip nobody gives you. A thicker neck frames your jaw and creates contrast that makes it look sharper — even at the same body fat.

Neck curls, neck extensions, and heavy shrugs, 2-3 times a week. Within 8-12 weeks, you'll notice a difference in how your face looks in photos.

Step 3: Deal with Water Retention

Water retention can make even lean guys look puffy. The main culprits:

Sodium swings. A huge salty meal causes temporary bloating. The fix isn't cutting salt — it's keeping your intake roughly consistent so your body doesn't overreact to spikes.

Alcohol. Dehydrates you, then your body overcompensates with water retention. That puffy face the morning after? That's why.

Bad sleep. Under 7 hours raises cortisol, which promotes facial puffiness. Fix your sleep, and your face looks tighter within days.

Not drinking enough water. Sounds counterintuitive, but when you're dehydrated, your body holds onto more water. Aim for 2-3 litres daily.

Step 4: Fix Your Posture

Forward head posture pushes your jaw back. Standing tall with your head stacked over your shoulders brings your jaw forward naturally. It costs nothing and the difference is instant.

On Mewing

Tongue against the roof of your mouth might help long-term posture. It's not going to reshape your face at 25% body fat. Get lean first, then optimise if you want.

What to Expect

  • **Month 1-2:** You start noticing subtle changes in certain lighting
  • **Month 3-4:** Other people start commenting
  • **Month 6+:** If you started above 20% body fat, this is when the full transformation lands
  • It's gradual, then all at once. Keep going.
