How to Save a Half-Wasted Diet

You started a cut, lost discipline halfway through, and now you feel like you've wasted weeks. You haven't. Here's how to rescue it.

You Haven't Wasted Anything

You started your diet 6 weeks ago. The first 3 weeks were solid. Then life happened. A holiday, a few bad weekends, some stress eating. Now you feel like you're back to square one.

You're not. I promise you, you're not.

Why It Feels Worse Than It Is

When you fall off a diet, two things happen that trick you into thinking you've lost all progress.

First, water weight comes back. When you eat more carbs and sodium after restricting them, your body stores water. This can add 2-3kg overnight. It looks dramatic on the scale. It's not real fat gain.

Second, you feel guilty. And guilt makes you exaggerate how bad things actually are. One bad weekend doesn't undo 3 weeks of deficit.

The Maths

To gain 1kg of actual body fat, you need to eat roughly 7,700 calories above maintenance. That's a LOT. A bad weekend might be 2,000-3,000 calories over. That's maybe 300-400g of fat. Not the disaster it feels like.

How to Get Back On Track

1. Don't try to "make up for it" with extreme restriction. That starts the binge-restrict cycle. Just go back to your normal deficit.

2. Weigh yourself after 5 days of normal eating. The water weight will drop and you'll see where you actually stand.

3. Reset your weekly targets, not your whole plan. You don't need a new program. You need to restart the one you were on.

4. Accept that imperfect consistency beats perfect inconsistency. Every time.

The Truth About Diet Success

Nobody runs a perfect cut. Not me, not any client I've worked with. The ones who get results aren't the ones who never slip. They're the ones who slip and get back on track the next meal, not the next Monday.

That's it. Get back on track today. Not tomorrow. Today.
