The scale isn't moving but your body is changing. Here are 3 signs that fat loss is happening even when the numbers don't show it.

The Scale Lies
You've been dieting for 3 weeks. Eating right, training hard. You step on the scale and it hasn't moved. Or it went up. You feel defeated.
Don't be. The scale measures everything, not just fat. Water, food, muscle, glycogen. A stable scale doesn't mean zero progress.
Sign 1: Your Clothes Fit Differently
This is the most reliable indicator. If your jeans are looser around the waist or your shirts fit tighter around the shoulders, your body composition is changing. You're losing fat and building muscle simultaneously. The scale can stay the same while this happens.
Sign 2: You Look Different in Photos
Take progress photos every 2 weeks. Same lighting, same angle, same time of day. Compare them side by side. You'll see changes that the mirror misses because you see yourself every day. Small daily changes are invisible in real-time but obvious in comparison photos.
Sign 3: Your Lifts Are Going Up
If you're getting stronger while the scale is stable or dropping slightly, you're building muscle and losing fat. That's the holy grail of body recomposition. Don't sabotage it by panicking about the scale.
What to Do
1. Weigh yourself daily, take the weekly average. Ignore individual days.
2. Take progress photos every 2 weeks.
3. Track your lifts. Strength going up = muscle going up.
4. Trust the process for at least 6-8 weeks before changing anything.
The worst thing you can do is cut calories further because the scale didn't move after one week. Be patient. The fat is leaving. It just doesn't always show up on the scale first.
