I Spent Years Hating My Body (Here's What Actually Helped)
Body image issues aren't just a women's thing. I spent years ashamed of how I looked. Here's the honest story of what changed.

This Isn't Easy to Talk About
Men don't talk about body image. We're not supposed to care. But I cared. A lot. And it ate at me for years.
I'd avoid mirrors after a shower. I'd wear dark, baggy clothes to hide my shape. Pool parties? No chance. Taking my shirt off in front of anyone made me feel physically sick.
I wasn't overweight. I was skinny-fat. Which somehow felt worse because nobody else could see the problem. "You look fine," people would say. But I didn't feel fine.
What Didn't Help
Comparison. Scrolling Instagram and seeing guys with perfect physiques made me feel worse. Every time. Without exception.
Crash dieting. I'd starve myself for 2 weeks, see no change, and feel like a failure. Then eat everything in sight out of frustration.
Waiting for motivation. "I'll start Monday." "I'll start after this holiday." "I'll start when I have more time." I waited for years.
What Actually Helped
Starting small and staying consistent. 3 gym sessions a week. Nothing crazy. Just showing up. After 2 months, I started to see small changes. After 6 months, I looked like a different person.
Shifting focus from aesthetics to performance. When I stopped asking "how do I look?" and started asking "how much stronger am I this week?" everything changed. The body followed the performance.
Talking about it. Telling one friend how I felt. Not for advice. Just to say it out loud. That took more courage than any workout, but it took the weight off something that had been sitting on me for years.
Building identity. Going from "I'm the soft guy" to "I'm someone who trains." That shift didn't happen overnight. It happened through hundreds of small actions that gradually rewrote the story.
Where I Am Now
I'm genuinely proud of my body. Not because it's perfect. Because I built it myself through consistent effort. That pride comes from the process, not the result.
If You're Where I Was
You're not alone. More guys feel this way than will ever admit it. The way out isn't a magic program or a supplement. It's showing up, being patient, and slowly proving to yourself that you're capable of change.
It gets better. I promise.
