A Thicker Neck Changes Your Face (Here's Why)

Nobody talks about neck training, but it might be the single biggest upgrade for how you look. It changed how my face looked more than I expected.

The Most Underrated Muscle

Everyone trains chest, arms, and shoulders. Almost nobody trains their neck. But a well-built neck might be the single biggest upgrade for how you look — especially your face.

I didn't start training my neck until about a year into serious lifting. Within 8 weeks, I noticed my face looked different in photos. It wasn't that my face changed. It was that my neck created contrast that made my jawline appear sharper.

Why It Matters

A thicker neck makes your jawline look more defined by framing it. It fills out t-shirts in a way that screams "this guy trains." And it gives you a more commanding presence.

Think about it — when you see someone who looks athletic, you notice their neck and traps before their arms. It frames your entire face and upper body.

The Exercises

Neck Curls (front): Lie face-up on a bench with your head off the edge. Hold a light plate on your forehead (start with 5kg) and curl your chin toward your chest. 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

Neck Extensions (back): Lie face-down with your head off the edge. Hold a plate on the back of your head and extend upward. 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

Shrugs: Heavy barbell or dumbbell shrugs for the upper traps. 3 sets of 12-15 reps.

Farmer Walks: Walk with heavy dumbbells or kettlebells. Builds neck, traps, grip, and core all at once. 3 sets of 40-60 seconds.

How to Do It

Train neck 2-3 times a week at the end of your sessions. Takes 5-10 minutes. Use light weight and high reps — the neck is made of small muscles that respond better to volume.

Start lighter than you think you need to. Your neck has probably never been trained directly, so it needs time to adapt. Add weight slowly over weeks.

Important: Never jerk the weight. Slow, controlled reps only. If you feel pain or dizziness, stop.

When You'll See Results

2-3 weeks: you'll feel it. 6-8 weeks: you'll see it in the mirror. 3-4 months: other people will notice something different about you, even if they can't explain what changed.

Small muscle. Big impact.
